Finally went to Jake's after a year of my sister telling me I needed to try it. Well as usual she was right! I met a friend of mine there after not seeing her for 25 years. Our waitress was awesome! She told us to take our time and not rush, we were there for 3 hrs. We got the calamari as appetizer. It was crisp outside, yet very tender inside. Then the entree, broiled rockfish stuffed with crab imperial..... So much crab that it was falling off the fish..... It was so delicious. The sweet potato fries were also out standing!! But the best part, oh the best part... A gluten free flourless chocolate torte. It was like the most decadent piece of dark chocolate fudge just melting in your mouth. It was the best meal and the best service I have had in a while. Oh, and since I am local they will be seeing more of me for sure!!!!

We stayed at the comfort inn next door while visiting Rehoboth Beach. The service was quick and helpful, food was tasty and not too expensive. My wife had the broiled crab cake which she threw up about 3 hours later. She was feeling fine before and she doesn't drink alcohol. This was the last day of our vacation and wanted to sample some local food so the $100 for the four of us would have been well worth it if not for getting sick. We went there near closing time maybe that had something to do with it? It didn't seem like a bad place. Just wish the wife hadn't gotten so sick.

Friends claim they have good meals here but they have never ordered anything other than crab cake and steak. I don't think i will ever be back.

I came here for seafood. I liked the food, people and location. I ate crab cake Imperial small portion and it was very good. My hubby ate jambalaya and he said it was very tasty. Also I choose two sides and one was redskin mashers and seasonal vegetables. The redskin mashers was the best I ever had. Good job!!

Jake's is known for their crab cakes which I wanted to try. Along with the entree, you have a choice of two sides. I had cole slaw and steamed broccoli. The cole slaw was very good. The crab cakes were large (you get two for the entree) and had a lot of crabmeat in them. I had them broiled and they were cooked nicely and tasted good. They are open until 10 pm and we were there around 8:30 for dinner when it wasn't crowded. They also have a bar and you can order smaller plates if you like. There was some nice live music while we were there. The location is right on the Coastal Highway and easy to find if you are staying in the area. Service was very good. Prices were a little high but not outrageous.

Came in here for a beer last Sat night and was pondering a snack. 2 bartenders looks like they would rather be anywhere but there. I did ask for a menu and had 2 beers but no one ever asked me if i wanted anything to eat. There was a group of ladies next to me and they all got their food except for one. Their waiter/bartender asked rudely if they all put their orders in together (which they did) and then he put the 4th person's order in while acting if it was their fault with no apology. They also asked this same waiter if they could change a tv. He very rudely stated it would have to wait because he was busy. Not sure if it ever happened. Not sure if will come back and sit at the bar which is shame. Waited tables for years and understand busy but that sure is not the customers fault! Paid for beers and left.

The crab cake entree was legit, and the seafood bisque was amazingggggg. They have a good beer selection as well. The place is huge so we were seated quickly and the staff was very friendly. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and there was live music!

Incredibly disappointing experience. Ordered the broiled seafood plate and was sure the server fish was trout and not flounder. I don't mind trout, but I do mind lying. Most of the food was poorly seasoned, overly oily, and wholly overpriced. I highly suggest you keep and pass this place.

Very spacious and comfortable dining experience. The servers are prompt and courteous. The food is good. My friend had fish and chips and I had the salmon. However, the best part of the meal was the apple-dumpling. To die for. We'll stop back again.

The staff was incredibly nice, we were seated at a booth immediately upon walking in and our waitress had a smile on her face and made sure our drinks were full throughout our visit. We had Crab Balls for our appetizer and it was absolutely amazing, there are 5 small Crab Balls in the 9.99$ appetizer but they were absolutely amazing, worth the money. We all got the Fish N Chips and once again, fast service and tasted amazing. Perfect for families but also has a large bar area towards the back. Would defiantly come back and recommend.

Another reviewer said it best... "Typical overpriced seafood/bar." Nothing we had there was bad, but it was not good either. It was certainly not worth the $23+ price tag on most of the entrées. I left there feeling like I'd overpaid for crummy diner seafood. The service wasn't overly spectacular either. We arrived with a party of 6 to a half empty restaurant. They told us to wait a minute while they got the table ready for us. 20 minutes and a few pointed looks at the hostess later, we were finally seated. There were at least 4 tables in eyeshot of the waiting area that could have fit us the second we walked in. Thought this was a bit strange.

Stale fries, I order calamari for appetizers, LOL for the price, they gave you like 5 pieces! The lobster roll was a gross, where's the dressing it's suppose to mixed in?! Had better lobster roll on a street stand. They left few shells, not worth the money, with or without the shell! The 10 dollar burger, Burger King did a better job! My daughter took 2 bites, passed the rest. The service was mediocre. When I brought some of the issues up, where's the manager?!!!

Nice Seafood Restaurant. Fresh food. Crab cakes very tasty. One note if you order the crab cake platter you should be allowed to have one broiled and one fried. Broiled Salmon was very fresh.I would recommend the homemade potato salad and colo slaw as sides.

I got the scallops with a mango curry sauce. The sauce was great but the scallops were overcooked. Just ok.

I simply cant believe a 23.00 meal does not come with a house salad or bread. When our entrees arrived and I asked the waitress if it comes with salad or bread she said oh I can bring you bread you just have to request it. really?? This restaurNt is definately overpriced for the food you get. Side of mashed potAtoes looked as if it was scooped onto the plate with an ice cream scooper. Also the upcharge on the onion rings as a side on a 23.00 meal is absurd. There is also an upcharge if you would like to have a side salad. My personal opinion is that the food is not great in this pricey restaurant.

We took some friends from California back in October. They wanted crab cakes so we thought we'd try Jakes because we'd heard good things. Our friend lived in Maryland for many years and know good crab cakes. We will not go back to Jakes. We all got the crab cakes platter which was a crab cakes on a plate with a slice of lettuce tossed on the plate. Service was awful. We certainly will make sure we don't bother them again.

We went here for Mother's Day. We were seated in about 15 minutes so it was not a really long wait. Our waitress, Jessica, was extremely nice, and very friendly. I ordered the stuffed flounder (supposedly stuffed with crab imperial). Well, it there was a tablespoon of crab imperial there, it was a lot. And the taste of the crab imperial was not outstanding. The flounder was good though. However, for $24.95 it was way overpriced. Our waitress said they had raised prices, and they were getting ready to do it again. Jessica asked us if we would like some rolls, and when we got them, there were only two in the basket, with two containers of butter. I mean, come on, for the prices they charge they could at least have put four rolls in the basket! I I have to say the nicest thing about our meal was the waitress.....I don't think we will be going back to Jake's again though.....Prices are too high; maybe the tourists won't think they are but locals will!

I went here on Sunday of Labor Day weekend to eat seafood and escape from the sweltering heat. My friend and I ordered the stuffed mushrooms, steamed mussels, calamari to share and the broiled seafood platter each. The calamari was crisp and tender. There was a lot of crab in the stuffed mushrooms. The mussels were a little small each but there were a lot of mussels. The seafood platter had a big delicious crabcake that was solid crab. The flounder, shrimp and scallops were great too, considering they were broiled. Their tartar sauce was mild but I totally understand why it has to be mild to suit most people. The potato salad had chopped egg which I liked. The TV had a tennis match on and it was a nice relaxing place.

A year ago, I was headed to Bethany Beach for a conference with my mom and sister. We were doing some shopping and getting hungry, and a local kindly suggested Jake's to us. It was easy to find via GPS, and there was PLENTY of parking. We arrived late afternoon/early evening, and the place had plenty of seating, as it was clear the dinner rush hadn't yet hit. I honestly can't remember the last time I've been in a restaurant as huge as this one, but I was very appreciative for the space. It was a nice change up from the cramped little restaurants back home where you can hold out your hand and be touching the table next to you. The decor was typical beach restaurant theme, and the bar seemed to be pretty cool. Our hostess and waitress were mega friendly, although I found it odd that they were all still wearing short-shorts in late September. Our waitress was EXTREMELY helpful to us land-locked out-of-towners who were unsure of what to get. She recommended the seafood bisque and the seafood platter, all of which we ordered. THE SEAFOOD BISQUE WAS HANDS DOWN THE BEST THING I'VE EVER EATEN. So good. SO SO SO good. My mom, sister, and I ceased all conversation and replaced words with "mmm" and "ohhh yeahhhh" after every bite. Maybe it's because we don't get fresh seafood back home, as I've seen others gripe about it in the reviews, but it was perfect. Tons of seafood, creamy, and a little kick on the back end of the bite. I'd honestly travel back to Delaware just for that. The seafood platters my family got were good! I was a silly goose and got some sort of seafood crab bake that had a weird aftertaste and was just okay. I should have sent it back and got another bowl of bisque, but hindsight is 20/20. If for some weird reason I'm ever back in Delaware for another conference, I'm making sure to come back!

Lunch out with 2 85+ year olds. Had to admit was surprised by the empty parking lot at noon on a Friday, but based on past experience we continued. Seniors started with Bloody Mary's ~ out server warned they had a kick and she wasn't kidding. She was helpful enough to add some tomato juice to one to soften the kick. All three meals were thoroughly enjoyed. The seafood bisque came in a leg bowl and was delicious. The smaller serving (very appreciated) of the fried flounder sandwich was enjoyed with cole slaw. The chicken panini sandwich was large enough to save 1/2 for later, but was good enough that the whole sandwich was consumed. Our server was good (and a local gal), she moderated her tone for two hard of hearing seniors! The parking lot and restaurant had filled up by the time we left. This will continue to be a go to place for lunch!

Great food and even better service. Gavin S killed service on this visit. The family stops in Jakes every time we are in the area. If you are in the mood for seafood at a reasonable price this is the place to go.

Stopped in for a crane cake for lunch to wrap up my seafood weekend. The actual cake was 4 in. diameter, made with a minimal amount of breading. All jumbo lump crab and tasted good...not the best ever though. The $15 price tag frustrated me but good cr abmeat is expensive. Service was good. Place was clean and welcoming.

Not a place I would recommend anyone go, but it wasn't bad. Plenty of seating so we didn't have to wait for a table on a Sunday evening. I would recommend this place for large groups as they should be able to seat you. Unfortunately, the food lacked flavor. Tried the seafood bisque which was missing the seasoning and definitely didn't contain lump crabmeat. Also tried the lobster mac and cheese which was actually just greasy noodles with some croutons on top. There was barely and cheese and just a hint of lobster. For dinner I did the flounder sandwich, once I added some salt and pepper it was pretty good. It should have been fried a couple minutes longer in hotter oil to get it crispy on the outside and it also needed some seasoning added.

We stopped here because we were walking and it was pouring rain. I ordered a Captain's Punch which was very strong which isn't always a good thing. Nicole B and I split the lobster roll which was terrible. The lobster had just small pieces and tasted as if it had been frozen, on a hot dog bun. The parmesan fries were good but overall we were very disappointed. I expect better seafood from a seafood house down at the beach.

Very impressed. We were a party of 40 (in town for a baseball tournament), we made a same day reservation. They were the only restaurant we could find that would take a reservation for our party. The food was wonderful, the staff was incredible and they made our evening perfect!

My parents enjoy eating here so we stopped in while on vacation. Our server was young, energetic, and genuine. A great start. Sadly, it went down hill from there. We started with three apps. Tuna Poke..fatty. Lobster mac and cheese...greasy, clearly microwaved, and nary a spot of lobster. Crab dip...yummy!! I sent my lobster mac back (at 13.99, I just couldn't let it pass), and we joked that I'd have extra spit in my meal. Lo and behold, the bottom of my entree salad included a dead fly. The server was a trooper and couldn't apologize enough, removing the salad from the bill as well. Guess we'll try another place for seafood at Rehoboth.

Stopped in, grabbed a burger and a diet coke around noon, had the place to myself. The two gentle men working the bar and tasting wines from the wine delivery man were great conversation. Witty and funny people. Burger was banging, if you like it low carb style (No bun). Everytime I am in town to visit family I stop at this place.

Went here on my mom's birthday after going to the outlets because of a rainy day at the beach. We got there at 7:30 and it didn't not look very full, that might have been because it was a huge restaurant. We started out with onion straws as an app. It was, OK, it could have been more crispy, and the horseradish mayo needed more horseradish and less Mayo. But it did come out very quickly, we ordered it with our drinks and it came out when we were ordering, though it did take us a long time to figure out what we wanted, the menu is huge. My aunt and mother both ordered the crab cakes, fried. They were allegedly very good, I'm not a fan of crab so I can't testify myself. My brother then got the filet mignon, I will adress that later, and I got the "Jumballia pasta". Let me start this out with km not a fish person, but I figured I could pick out the shrimp in it. I was wrong, not only did it have shrimp, it is cooked in like a seafood bisque sauce. This not at all what I expected, and honestly could not eat it. The waitress came back, and I eventually decided to send it back, the management and the waitress handled this incredibly well, and I was impressed. Now back the filet. I then choose to get the filet mignon, this was cooked for both my brother and I at the PERFECT medium rare, and it along with its sauce was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, but its like every other restaurant in a resort area, very expensive. Over all, the staff was fantastic and the food was great if you get the right thing!

The food here was decent. I had the prime rib, which was tasty though unexceptional. We chose Jake's because we were looking for a break from downtown Rehobeth Beach, and this place had parking and a menu that we all agreed on.

We come to Jakes fairly often when we are in town visiting family. There is ample parking in the lot and many tables for seating. We have never had to wait very long to get seated. The service is friendly and efficient. Crab cakes are very good here and they have Fat Tire on tap and several other beers. The menu has a wide variety of seafood and also selections for those who do not like seafood like my daughter. I like that they offer fresh vegetables that are not fried. This has become hard to find. Also they have good real brewed iced tea. We have also used Jakes for a surprise party and they handled everything including the reservation very well. Looking forward to the next visit.

It was late & we were famished. Atmosphere was clean & pleasant for the arrival time. Server was new but knowledgeable, learning but attentive, & not in a rush to leave. Kudos to the young lady. Seafood Bisque was recommended, flavorful, lots of seafood & sherry, a tasty dish! Blackened Mahi Mahi was a little over cooked but the flavor was great paired with the cucumber salsa, steamed broccoli & mashed potatoes. Second entree were the Mid-Atlantic sea scallops. Tender & sweet, done to perfection.

Very nice place for a good family dinner, server was polite and courteous, this place has a huge 80" TV and several old school amusement machines.. Ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes the house speciality they were good not the best I've ever had but still good, the Tuna was ok but just OK..the food was OK nothing great,

My wife and I ate here lastt evening. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice. Unfortunately the waitress was not the nicest. When we would ask for something it was a bother to her and we did not see her much. The worst was when it came to the bill. I paid cash and needed change. She left with the money and bill. After a few minutes she came back and asked if I needed change back. If the service would have been better I would not have needed change. When I asked for the difference back she came back and left the same bill I needed changed out. Right away I knew she was doing it so I would leave the large amount. I usually tip 25-30% without question. Since the service was not good and she was playing games I will not return to jakes seafood again. It's unfortunate because the food was good. The one star is all due to the waitress. The food was a five star.

Dinner for our table of 7 last evening was excellent. I was visiting family in the area as I often do and Jake's is high on our list when we want seafood. Never had a bad meal or a poor server. We were early so there was no crowd to contend with. Our server was attentive and knowledgable. Everyone's order came out as requested (and there were several requests for a personalized item) and at the right temperature. I read the other reviews and am surprised at the number of less than positive reports. That negativity has not been my experience at Jake's. I would certainly recommend Jake's to all.

I went to Jake's with my parents and nephews. My parents had been to Jake's before and we decided to go there after another seafood restaurant had line out the door. The wait staff was friendly, proactive and not too bad on the eyes. One of my nephews dropped his fork and a waitress passing by, picked it up, talked to him briefly and then got a clean one. They were also very responsive for our requests for things like extra tartar sauce. Our food came out very quickly and was all cooked correctly, with people having the right sides. The portions were fine, although the meals were a bit overpriced (by about 25%), as is to be expected at a seafood place at the beach over the summer. The quality of food was average. I ordered the seafood platter, so I could get a variety of fried fishy goodness. The founder was cooked well, but the breading was rather tasteless. The shrimp were really tasty with a Cajun type seasoning... good flavor and texture. The scallops had a good flavor too, but I felt like they were a little undercooked. As for the crab cake... that was a let down. The crab cakes (based on am 80 year old recipe), earned all sorts of "best in the state" awards about 10 years ago. They had a decent amount of crab in them, but it wasn't overwhelming. Also, they were rather bland and flavorless. My parents seemed satisfied with their meals (crab cakes and rockfish), but the children's dishes left a bit to be desired. The mac and cheese looked just like Kraft and the chicken fingers looked like they were right out of the freezer. Non food related things... Location... it's on the inward side of the highway. The decor is nautical, but not overwhelming. I didn't notice any music, so I could actually talk with the people I was with. Overall, I wouldn't be opposed to going back but I'd probably look for somewhere else to try out first. Also, if I do go back there, I'd probably stick to the shrimp or try something cheaper.

Typical overpriced seafood/bar. Mediocre food at best. Seafood bisque decent but expected more at 7 bucks a bowl. Fish and chips was disappointing, one piece of fish and a pile of soggy fries. Asked for the fries crispy, guess they don't do that.

Stopped in for Thursday's special : lobster bake for $20. It was great! The lobster, mussels, shrimp, and clams were all fresh and of good quality. The steak wasn't too great, but I would definitely be back on a Thursday as long as they still have the lobster bake for the special.

Our server was a bit rude. They charged us 2.75 for a tiny kids size apple juice. No refills. However, manager came by to check in on us once. Fish and chips, which is what we came in for as it was advertised off the hwy, was mediocre at best.

Stopped in for a late lunch with 7 family members on a Saturday. Our server, Olivia, was amazing. Very friendly and professional. Since we were a large party. She made excellent recommendations for appetizers to share. The crab dip, potato crisps and calamari were delicious. She then recommended the broiled seafood platter to try a little bit of everything. The crab cake and flounder were very flavorful. However, I was not impressed with the shrimp or scallops.

This place offers some of the best food in the area. In 2004, I began dining here out of convenience as a guest at the neighboring Comfort Inn. Throughout that time, the food has remained consistent and the service has become more and more friendly. I have never had a disappointing meal here, and I would almost wager that there's not a bad dish on the menu. Prior to dining here, I had never eaten fried oysters or an entire lobster. Now they're a staple. This brings me to the 'Lobster Bake', which is probably the best deal in town on Thursday night. Get there early, because they sell out fast! The staff is very friendly. I have never received anything but excellent service from any of them. I was even invited to their annual Christmas party one year, and I'm far from a 'regular'. The atmosphere is inviting and there's plenty of TVs in the bar area to watch the game. However, it IS Delaware, so be prepared to listen to a bunch of Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and 76ers rhetoric. The food makes up for it, though.

Visited Jakes Seafood on July 25 2012 - 9pm. One diner ordered vegetable crab soup - NO CRAB meat visible - did not taste crab either. Waitress took it off the bill. Ordered the Seafood Bisque - got a bowl of lumpy, messy stuff. It did have seafood - was so thick and unappealing - manager stopped by table to ask how meal was and I told him about the seafood bisque - he explained that is one of their signature dishes and this is how they serve it. He took the soup away and removed it from the bill. I have had bisque at numerous places - it's creamy, has a sherry finish - Jake's was different. One diner ordered a salad with grilled chicken and she liked it and the dressing as well. I had the "signature dish" crab cake - it was full of crab meat - I just found it very bland, the crab meat tasted like it was from a can (not sure of this). It was ok. The menu boasts of the 80 year Baltimore tradition of seafood - I have family in Baltimore and have never tasted any crab cake like Jake's while I was in Baltimore. The place looked nice inside and out - I was expecting a really good seafood meal - I am at the beach - seafood places are everywhere. I will try another and hopefully have something more positive to say. I hate not giving better opinion of their food. We thought the prices were really high and expected more - especially after reading about the family history behind this restaurant - I was ready for some great seafood and flavor - I did not get it from Jake's.
